Forget chocolate eggs this Easter – it’s all about the new trend for savoury goodies, including ‘cheese eggs’ and cocktails.
Stilton brand 1912 has seen a growth in sales in the lead up to Easter as shoppers embrace the trend, which has seen recipes for savoury cocktails go viral on TikTok, as we develop the taste for something a bit more sophisticated.
Food giant Waitrose also noted in their trend predictions for 2025 that customers were showing an interest in ‘multisensory mixology’ as they seek a more immersive experience.
So, in line with the latest trends, 1912 has unveiled its alternative to the traditional Easter egg – a ‘Strawberry Velvet’ cocktail made with 1912 Stilton and Mozart Strawberry liqueur, topped with chocolate and pistachio created by drinks TV personality and star of Amazon Prime series, ‘The Three Drinkers’, Aidy Smith.
Aidy, creator of the popular 1912 Stilton Old Fashioned, said: “It’s all about the trends this Easter – everyone on TikTok and Instagram is trying to outdo each other with the most outlandish savoury cocktails they can think of. Blue cheese is perfect for many of these cocktails and is currently experiencing a massive revival as it becomes a great gifting alternative to traditional chocolate eggs.’
“I decided to combine sweet and savoury by teaming up with 1912 Stilton and Mozart Chocolate Liqueur to create the most indulgent strawberry cocktail, guaranteed to make any Easter celebration a success.’
The secret to Aidy’s recipe is the famous 1912 rum fat wash – which is becoming the most popular base for savoury cocktails.
Aidy said: “Over the past year, I’ve really seen the trend for savoury cocktails take off as people decide to explore new flavours. Social media has showcased so many variations, but with this collaboration with 1912 Stilton and Mozart, we’ve got the best of both worlds.”
Bill Mathieson, MD of Clawson Farms, who produces 1912, said: “British blue cheese is enjoying a revival particularly as people are experimenting with innovative food and drink ideas. There is a still a love for artisanal food such as Stilton but we are now seeing people experiment with different pairings, the savoury cocktail trend is still huge with bar tenders around the world introducing new ideas.” 1912 is available in Ocado, Morrisons and Tesco or www.longclawson.co.uk
