Clawson Farms: Integrity & Care

At Clawson Farms we take enormous pride in everything we do to ensure we deliver the very best for our customers, our farms, our staff, our community and our environment.

The values and guiding principles that underpin our business are set out in our ‘We Care’ plan. This demonstrates our long-term commitment to our farmers and the welfare of their animals, our staff, our community, our customers, and the environment.

We’re passionate about building a sustainable legacy for the future.

7 Ways We Care

1

Reducing & Managing Carbon

We want to lead the way in sustainable cheesemaking, and have already undertaken an enormous amount of work to reduce our carbon emissions by 30% by 2032.

The carbon footprint of each of our co-operative partner farms have been mapped and our partner farmers have personalised, data-driven plans in place to help them take the next steps on their sustainability journey.

Animal Welfare

To achieve excellence in cheesemaking, you need the very best milk – which means happy cows. We consider our herds a very important part of our extended Clawson family.

Every partner farm is different, but our farmers share a genuine passion in caring for their animals, keeping them nourished and healthy, and encouraging them to graze freely on lush pastures as often as possible. On average, Clawson Farms cows graze 180 days per year. The rest of the time they, like us, prefer to avoid the rain and be inside!

Our co-operative farms are all members of the Red Tractor Assurance scheme, enhanced by our own Clawson Care 365 programme. Combined, we believe the scheme sets a standard in our industry for welfare, the environment, food safety and hygiene.

Biodiversity

We love to see how our farmers are encouraging nature into their environments, creating wild habitats that have allowed birds, small mammals, and essential pollinators to flourish and thrive.

Within the Clawson Farms co-operative, 290 miles of hedgerows have been planted, and we’ve planted over 5,000 trees in partnership with Leicester City Council and the Woodland Trust.

Water Stewardship

Management of water is crucial on dairy farms. We are mindful throughout our processes both on-farm and within the dairy, to use water efficiently and responsibly.

5

Plastic Reduction & Recyclability

We understand that our customers want to reduce the amount of plastic in their day-to-day lives, and we’re working in numerous ways to support them by implementing measures including using more recycled plastic and cardboard in our packaging and supply chain. So far, we’ve managed to significantly reduce and remove plastic and card from the business and our CSR team are continually finding ways to keep reducing waste in our supply chain.

6

The Best Ingredients

All of the ingredients that we use at Clawson Farms are high in quality and thoughtfully sourced. Our product teams continually monitor our recipes to ensure they contain just enough salt to preserve our delicious cheeses, and no more.

7

Supporting Our Community

We see our farms and dairy as an essential to supporting our local rural communities, employing more than 400 wonderful, cheese-loving folk. Each of them is an integral part of what we do and for them, cheesemaking is not a job, it’s a vocation. Each member of the team dedicates their time to doing things the right way, and embracing traditional techniques whilst also embracing innovation.

We like to look after our people, dividing profits between our farms and employees, or reinvesting back into the business. We’ve also partnered with Grocery Aid, an industry charity that supports employees working in the Grocery industry with financial, welfare and mental health support. We feel very proud to provide this wellbeing service to our colleagues here at Clawson Farms.
